Michael has always been known as a tremendous shooter but this season in particular he has looked to be more of a slasher, facilitator and defender. However he reminded everyone on Tuesday night that even though he is showing other aspects of his game he should still be known as one of the best, if not the best shooter, in the country. Northwood Temple would go on to win the game and Hueitt Jr would finish with 51 Points, 15 Assist, 8 Rebounds and 5 Steals. The ODU signee would finish the game with a mind blowing 16 made three point shots creating a record that will not likely be broken anytime soon. We got a chance to chat with Mike for a moment to see how the whole experience felt and if he did anything special prior to the game.
Q: At what part of the game did you realize that you had a chance to break the record?
Hueitt Jr: Halftime I had 9 threes, 29 Points and 10 Assist so I already had broken the school record so we looked up the state record at halftime and we went after it.
Q: During Pregame shoot around did you feel like it was going to be a hot shooting game for you?
Hueitt Jr: I actually didn’t even shoot during pregame which is wild, I did all layups and some dunks.
Q: Many times as shooter we talk about being in the zone, where it feels like everything is going in, did you get that feeling?
Hueitt Jr: Yeah everything I shot was going in and everybody was going crazy, so I just kept shooting, my teammates made me shoot as well. They just kept saying don’t pass it shoot it, and that’s what I did.
