The 6-foot-4 combo guard, who has been offered scholarships by Penn State, Rhode Island, and Quinnipiac, has decided to reclassify into 2018 and transfer to Spire Institute in Ohio this upcoming season.
Mitchell, who suffered a partially torn ACL back in April, has fully recovered after a few months of physical therapy. Since his return, Mitchell has been on an absolute tear. He was one of the top scorers during the BSN Summer League at DeMatha. Mitchell is finishing up his grassroots campaign with D.C. Blue Devils this summer in Vegas.
“I’m more of like a slasher type of guy. That’s the main thing I like to do. Transition is probably where I’m most comfortable,” Mitchell explained. “Getting into the paint, penetrating, kicking, getting easy buckets.”
Despite being considered a slasher, Mitchell has demonstrated a great deal of improvement in his perimeter jump shot. He hit seven threes in a game while running with Team Melo in the Elevate Hoops Summer Showdown in Philly. One thing that is overlooked about Mitchell’s game is his ability to create easy opportunities for his teammates off the bounce.
“I would say I’m underrated at getting my team involved. Making the extra pass,” Mitchell began. “When I drive and slash to the basket, I see people wide open.”
With two offers already under his belt, Mitchell is receiving interest from division one programs from all over the east coast. La Salle, Miami, and Xavier are a few of the schools he mentioned. Mitchell is currently focused on improving his game in a variety of areas.
“I need to work on ball handling, decision making,” he said. “Need to get a consistent jumper.”
At the next level, Mitchell brings great size and paint getting ability along with an underrated playmaking skill set. The combo guard will fit in nicely at virtually any division one program.
