Grinde joined the Minnesota Heat and so far Willie Vang’s team is having a great year led by a balanced team that includes Grinde who is able to play multiple positions in a consistent way game by game.
“This spring went pretty well,” said Chase. “I feel like before this spring not many people knew who I was or where I was from. I think that my performance this spring put me on the radar.
“I thought that I scored well from all three levels, played good defense, and rebounded well. My competitive edge also helped by making this spring successful.
“My AAU teammates and coaches have also contributed to how well this spring went. Without their help it wouldn’t have been as successful. However, there is still a lot I can improve on. Being more consistent shooting and improving my ball handling is my goal for this off season.
“I believe I’ve gotten a good start on that since the school season finished up, but there is always more you can improve on and that’s what my focus is. Keep improving and good things will happen much like this spring. I look forward to starting off the summer portion of this AAU season and finishing strong.”
Chase has proved that he can compete with the best in Minnesota on a consistent basis. So what’s next? Grinde is a worker and never stops building his ability.
“I’d like to be more consistent shooting the three and improve my ball handling so that I can go by defenders using speed rather than just strength,” Grinde explained. “I think my athleticism and speed have really improved.
“Also, my ability to score from anywhere on the floor and getting my teammates open shots and making the right pass.”
Grinde has heard from numerous schools about playing at the next level. Will he be in the NSIC, WIAC, MIAC, or in NAIA? Time will tell but it looks like he could have several opportunities.
“I’ve heard from Winona State, Bemidji State, Upper Iowa, Augustana, University of Minnesota-Duluth, Gustavus, UW- Eau Claire, Bethel, St. Olaf, Saint Mary’s, St. Scholastica, and Briar Cliff,” Grinde said.
“I don’t really know where I see myself going to college yet, but I would like to major in exercise science or biology and then go on to get my doctorate in physical therapy.”
So in this key time of life that includes the last year of high school sports and high school life in general Grinde is excited and focused.
“My goal is to continue to get better and keep learning. Also, continue having fun with my teammates and coaches and hopefully that leads to more college interest as I strive for those goals.”
