2019
PF Francis Okoro (St. Louis Eagles 16U)
This was my first opportunity to see the 6’10” post from Normal West. Okoro transferred to the central Illinois high school from out of state in the middle of the year and didn’t play this season. We had heard quite a bit of buzz about him and he lived up to the hype. He has a wide shouldered and physical body. Tremendous strength in his upper body. Rebounded at a high rate snatching them out of the air and starting the break the other way. Won tons of 50/50 balls. Really hit the offensive glass well. As an offensive player showed some skill with some quick spin moves on the interior and finished through contact every time he went up. Free throw stroke looks good with a lot of arc and even hit a 15 foot jumper. Defensively he was a monster with his length blocking and altering shots. Finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks against Meanstreets while playing up an age level. Without a doubt is the leading contender for the top spot in the 2019 rankings with they debut post summer.
SF Kahlil Whitney (Mac Irvin Fire 16U)
The other prime contender for that coveted spot at the top of the board is this Solorio 6’6” small forward. Whitney has the body, strength, frame, and athleticism that colleges coveted in a young wing prospect. Looked good as a rebounder snatching the ball out of the air. Didn’t score much as he air balled a couple threes. Offensively he is still trying to find his way playing against older guys, but he is without question a prospect with tremendous upside.
2020
SG Nimari Burnett (Mac Irvin Fire 14U)
We checked out the 2020 shooting guard again after we were impressed with his play in a couple brief evaluations during his 8th grade season. The smooth wing can really shoot the ball from the perimeter. He hit multiple jumpers pulling up from both three and mid-range. Deep range on his shot. Solid passer for an off guard that could play the point if he doesn’t grow. Long and angular guard projects well long term. Will attend Morgan Park next year.
PG Marcus Watson (Mac Irvin Fire 14U)
Watson opened our eyes in the first opportunity we had to evaluate him. The lead guard is small, but extremely quick with the ball in tight spaces. He pushes the tempo and is a tremendous passer in both the half court and transition game. Hit several runners in the lane and a pull up three. Will attend Morgan Park next year.
