He has displayed that go to scoring ability in a variety of ways. He is a plus perimeter shooter that can hit them from mid-range and three. Gets elevation off the floor with a clean looking stroke. Has slick handles and can take his man off the dribble to score. At times he over dribbles to much stopping the ball and has some turnovers because of that. Great speed in transition, but would like to see him go more straight to the hoop instead of so much side to side. Quick to the offensive glass from the wing position with his explosive second jump ability. Has a chance to be a quality defender at the college level. Mid-major prospect with upside.
Akenten spoke about his season.
“For the most part I would say it was successful. I wouldn’t go so much off the record or how long our playoff run was. I felt I grew as a player and everyone on our team got better. I feel like next year will be much better.”
Where has he seen that his game expand?
“My most improved aspect was the way I communicated with my team and being a leader. My coach focused more on that during the duration of the season.”
Where do things stand on the recruiting front for the top 15 prospect?
“Recruiting is good right now. My coach says that Wisconsin and Nebraska have been contacting him lately.”
He has a handful of offers already.
“Right now I have Chicago State, Western Illinois, Western Michigan, Northern Colorado, Lewis, Northern Illinois, Illinois State, UIC, and Wisconsin Green Bay.”
During the season he went down to Illinois State for a visit.
“It was pretty good. I went to go watch a game when they played Wichita State. It was a great game. They came out with the win by about four. I like their atmosphere and fans. They are a basketball town. They are in love with their athletics.”
He plans on making a return trip soon. Also visited Valparaiso a couple times during the year.
