Last spring and summer he was the playmaker that pushed his Minnesota Lockdown 16U team into the top five teams in state and led them to a state championship at NHR’s state tournament.
Now he has put up 25.7 points and over ten boards a game leading Watertown-Mayer to an 18-8 season entering section play. The Royals have won four of their last give games including a victory over Annandale for the second time this season.
“It’s going good,” Berhow said of the season. “We’ve taken a couple Ls to teams we shouldn’t have lost to. But overall we aren’t playing horrible, we just have to get back to the way we were playing in the beginning of the year (won five of their first six games). If we play like that we will make our run to State.”
Berhow is an extremely versatile player and he couples that with being one of the more fierce competitors in the state. This year he’s done everything for the Royals including handle some, create for himself and others, defend with high effort, and now create shots off the bounce against constant attention including denials and double teams.
“(My game has) progressed in the way of me getting ways to get my teammates open and me getting to be a better passer,” Berhow told NHR. “What I have to do to get us to the next level is to lock up the other teams best player and that will take us to the next to the next level.”
Berhow has built up four scholarship offers so far (St. Cloud State, UWGB, South Dakota, South Dakota State, and Drake) and I believe he can multiply that number three or four times this coming Grassroots season.
“I’m hearing from Drake, South Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wisconsin-Green Bay, North Dakota State, and Boston U the most,” Berhow said. “Drake, Northern Iowa, and South Dakota State were at the game against Annandale.”
