The balanced Rebels are ranked 4th in the Northstar Hoops Report state rankings and have a huge game with the 7th ranked Maple Grove Crimson this evening.
The Rebels were expected to be a top team in Class AAAA this year and a regular in the top ten rankings but a 17-3 record and 4th place in state may have been even better than what most predicted.
“Well as a team we need to bring it every night,” Theo said. “Some nights we come out slow but we are getting better at that and practice has picked up its intensity and that’s helped us to be more focused in games.
Theo himself is shooting a high percentage, has played more consistently on both ends, and is scoring in several different ways. He and his teammates have found a strong grove leading to 11 wins in their last 13 games.
“The whole team getting used to each other it’s been since the traveling days that we played together so just getting that chemistry down has been important,” Theo explained.
John has scholarship offers from Minnesota, Iowa, Marquette, Nebraska, Kansas Sate, Illinois, and Texas Tech plus interest from schools around the nation. Theo has been to Minnesota a few times this fall and winter and he has another unofficial visit planned for the neat future.
“I’m going to Marquette the 13th of February and then I’m trying to schedule a visit to Oklahoma soon,” John said.
Oklahoma is one of many programs that watched Theo play this fall during his open gyms. Clemson also came by as did Iowa State and others. Illinois was the most recent team not named Minnesota to see him play live.
The Gophers were the first team to offer Theo and they remain a team he will follow closely.
“I’d say they are very interested and a great program,” John said about his hometown school “They are putting in the work for a bright future.”
John also recently told us that he likes the Minnesota staff as “they are really chill and straight up with you, but they are all business when it comes to game time.
“I think the up-tempo style of play would be a good fit, that’s what I’m looking for in a team.”
But for now what Theo is really looking for is an 18th victory over a fellow top ten squad in Maple Grove.
