The other words I use when talking about Myles are “consistent”, “high character”, and “always improving”.
If you need evidence of that look no further than Hanson’s junior season. He has helped a Chaska team that graduated four starters push to a 17-5 record and is leading the Metro West by a game.
Good things were expected at Chaska but more for next season. The “year of growth” was skipped over and the Hawks are a contender now.
“I’m extremely happy with how our season is going,” Hanson told NHR. “We’ve had a few heartbreakers down the stretch but we are still playing for a conference championship and nothing is set in stone.
“I just think down the stretch that we need to close out games and come into each game with intensity and a determination to win. Our team had a lot of talent and as long as we work together we are a really tough team to beat.”
The Hawks have recorded wins over Lakeville North, Shakopee, Eastview, Centennial, Jefferson, Eden Prairei, Cooper, St. Louis Park, Orono, and BSM so the resume looks really good.
The section is extremely challenging with Edina, Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Jefferson, and Shakopee all fighting for position so very good squads will be going home after a single round of section play. Any of those teams could win their way to the state tournament including the Hawks.
Hanson has scored 511 points through 22 games this year giving him an average of 23.2 points per game. This is a jump from the 15.7 points per game he produced as a sophomore for the 22 win section runner up team.
Myles is up nearly eight points a contest as he has put a lot of work into improvements.
“I was able to to attack and finish with both my right and my left hand and my ball handling has improved,” Hanson told NHR. “My jump shot is also something I’m still working on but has also improved a lot.
“I feel like I need to help my team with points on the offensive end but also I need to be a leader on the floor and be a force on defense. Also, being a force on the boards both offensively and defensively will help the team a lot because limiting our opponent to no second chance shots is a big key to our success.”
Myles has already scored 932 career varsity points so he will likely surpass the 1,000 point just before section play.
Hanson of course has several programs in concact including Northern Iowa who has offered him a scholarship.
“I’m hearing mostly from Cornell, Lehigh and Northern Iowa,” Hanson said. “I’ve also been in contact with Northwestern and the University of Minnesota, and Nebraska has came to one of my games here in Minnesota.”
Hanson’s Grassroots Coach Pete Zurn added the following list of teams checking in on Hanson regularly: “Minnesota, Northwestern, South Dakota, Drake, and Northern Iowa check in, and Myles is also having Ivy League and Patriot League Schools Inquire.”
